Kristen Shaw, DVM
Dr. Shaw has a life-long love and respect for animals, which led to her career in veterinary medicine. She enjoys working with clients who include their animals as a part of the family. Dr. Shaw emphasizes providing the best possible care and forming long-lasting relationships with her clients. She graduated from Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. In 2005, Dr. Shaw formed a partnership with then senior practitioner, Dr. Powell. She purchased the practice when Dr. Powell retired in 2006.
Dr. Shaw shares her home with her husband, three cats and two very active dogs. She also has a love for horses and has raised, trained and shown horses since her youth.
Stephanie Ricker, DVM
Dr. Ricker grew up in New Jersey, but fell in love with Oregon as a student at Reed College. After graduating from the NYS College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, she and her husband returned to the Northwest. Dr. Ricker has been at Southgate Animal Clinic since 1986 and enjoys the long-term relationships she has established with her clients here.
Dr. Ricker and her husband have a son and a daughter who attend college out of state. Her family enjoys their volunteer work as puppy raisers for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Click here to see photos of two of the pups, Donette and Riata, they helped raise.
Tammy Stemper, DVM
Dr. Stemper grew up in Minnesota where she graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. She and her husband moved to Oregon in 1999. She began working for Southgate Animal Clinic that same year.
The Stemper's have two sons, Ben and Neil that keep them very busy. She also shares her home with four cats and one chocolate Lab. Her active family enjoys hiking, birding, camping, canoeing, reading and movies.
Ilona Edens, DVM
Dr. Edens is a native Minnesotan and moved to Portland in 2004 after receiving her degree from University of Minnesota. She began working at Southgate Animal Clinic in 2007. Dr. Edens special interests are surgery, geriatric pets, and client education.
Dr. Edens is pictured with her Chihuahua Chalupa. At home she has 3 cats, Winnie, SKID & Owen. Most of her kids had been sick or injured patients of hers that she treated and adopted.
Olivia Wilson, DVM
Dr. Wilson is a part-time veterinarian at Southgate Animal Clinic who started working with us in the fall of 2011. She graduated from Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Wilson has many areas of interest including dentistry.
Dr. Wilson and her husband have Lilly (pictured with Dr. Wilson) and 2 cats Rocco and Howie at home.
Susan Johns, Office/Customer Service Manager
Susan started her veterinary career in 1995 at SAC as a part-time receptionist. With previous bank management experience she began managing the clinic. Susan shares an office with Dr. Shaw & Dr. Stemper (when they aren't seeing clients) and all the staffs' dogs--Susan's doggie daycare. She shares her home with her husband, daughter and 6 cats, most of them adopted through the clinic.
Donna, CVT
Donna is one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians (CVT). She has been in the field for 26 years and spent 13 of those here at Southgate. She has a special interest in cytology (the study of cells) and, with her skills, has been a huge asset to the doctors. She is also the inventory manager, so, if you need anything ordered, feel free to ask her. Donna shares her home with Brody, a Chihuahua, and her cats: Dylan, Norman, and Georgia.
Andrea, CVT & VDT
Andrea is another CVT here at Soughtgate. She has been in the field for 17 years, 12 of those with us. She is also a Certified Veterinary Dental Technician (VDT
) and is passionate about dental health in your pets. In addition to dentistry, she is also interested in behavior and training. Have any questions regarding either subject? Feel free to ask! Andrea lives with her two mixed-breed dogs Muppet, Idgy and Tater, pictured at right, and four rats. Ruling over the household are: Jag, Bleker, Mingo, Turtle, Gus and Pickles - the cats.
Stephen, CVT
Stephen has been here at Southgate for four years after moving to the Portland area five years ago, coming to our clinic with over 27 years in the veterinary field. Eight of those 27 years he has been a CVT and now helps as the clinic "cat whisperer." He also enjoys working with the doctors during surgeries. Stephen enjoys hiking with his 2 Golden-retrievers in the Gorge (when weather permits) and hanging out with his four cats at home.
Alyssa, CVT
Alyssa wears many hats here at the clinic. She is a CVT who for the last 6 years, she has shared her over 14 years of experience with the clinic. She also helps our clients with the difficult time at the end of their pets life and provides help with grief. Alyssa has a Bachelors of Science, Science with a minor in Biology and Geology from University of California, Irvine.
